Scene Breakdowns
It’s been months since we filmed these scenes so I apologize for not remembering the character names or exact context, but i’ll do my best to explain it. This was actually my first behind the scenes experience on a working production that I was graciously invited to, thanks to my graduation project mentor and friend Chad Oliver who was working as 1st AC. The film is a short (about 10 min) about a young trauma victim who must fight to survive as the off-duty surgeon is called at home to scrub in ASAP while the other surgeons are preoccupied.
Scene 1- INT. Hospital (UNCW):
The hospital room was pretty cramped to begin with, so I honestly tried to stay out of the way as best as possible, but the crew was very welcoming and let me check out the camera, rigging, and monitors between and during shots. I’m still unclear if it was okay to take a few pictures, so sorry I only have a few. However, I got to watch them block and shoot various hand-held and dolly shots which was awesome. I’ve worked One Tree Hill before, but you really don’t get to watch the crew when you’re in front of the camera so it was a much more enjoyable experience. I was only there for a few hours before I had to leave for work, but Jon invited me to help out on another scene downtown the following week which was really cool.
Scene 2- EXT. Inner-City (Downtown Wilmington):
This set took up about a block or so (at an intersection) with a lot of big lighting setups and the same RED One camera. The scene(s) consisted of a carjacking followed by the driver peeling out into the intersection and down the road. It was a late night shoot, and rather long (from about 7pm-3am or so) but we had a great time and, from what I can see in the teaser, the shots look great! I can’t wait to see the final product at the screening in a few weeks and I really hope that it’s posted online so I can share it with all of you!
