My Review
Hilarious for both men and women! The Ugly Truth featuring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler had me laughing consistently throughout! The chemistry between the two is so believably funny; I would have been satisfied watching them argue back and forth for an hour and a half. However, as much as I enjoyed it there are some high and low points of the film which I must discuss.
First off, watching only two trailers previous to viewing the film, I predicted the ending, as most others probably have or will too. The story reminded me a lot of Hitch starring Will Smith, but I enjoyed that movie too, so it really didn’t bother me too much that this was a bit of a cliché with some flare. Regardless, the dialogue expressed such rich male perspective; I would have never guessed that this film was written by a full female team. In addition it is accompanied by great acting from the full cast which gives the film a unique and enticing energy.
On the technical side, there were some poorly constructed shots chosen by the director, and occasional awkward framing, which lost it some stars in framing and balance. They did however; regain my graces with some unique crane and bird’s eye shots which caught my attention. Aside, from the really basic visual effects/green screen segment at the end, I liked this films edginess and energy which make it a must see, whether it’s a theater view or rental, by any mature audience member (male or female.)
